Very Revd Adrian Newman: A Brief Biography
Adrian was born in Watford and survived. The youngest of 6 children, he worked as an economist before ordination in 1985. He has served parish communities in East London, Sheffield, and central Birmingham (the Bullring) before taking up his present post as Dean of Rochester in 2005.
As Dean he is responsible for leading the cathedral in its mission and ministry, representing the cathedral in its engagement with the wider community, and working as a member of the Bishop's Senior Staff, with a variety of responsibilities across the diocese.
He describes himself as a social entrepreneur, committed to human flourishing and the re-enchantment of society. He was once introduced as ‘the most un-Dean-like Dean in the Church of England’ – a description he quite likes.
Adrian is married to Gill, with 3 boys aged between 16 and 22, and a mad black Labrador. He loves all forms of sport, and still exercises regularly to try and stay fit. He is a great fan of U2, Bruce Springsteen and the folk group Show of Hands.
